Lose Naturally The Weight Gained After You Quit Smoking
Quitting smoking takes a huge amount of will power. Even with all the information available, extra tools and products available to help and, of course, the health scares, it takes a lot to kick the habit. So anyone who manages to break their nicotine addiction deserves a big pat on the back. One issue many people face after they have given up smoking is that they put on weight. This happens for a number of reasons:
* You use food as a distraction technique. When you want a nicotine hit you could well end up reaching for a biscuit instead.
* You look to keep your hands busy. Many people who give up smoking find they don’t know what to do with their hands, leading to many people reaching for food to replace a cigarette.
* Having your mouth free of smoke has led to you craving new sensations and tastes, which food can provide.
What ever your reason you are far from alone at putting on weight when you quit smoking. Whilst it won’t be easy to shift this weight you can do it, after all, we know you have the willpower to quit nicotine so you can do this.
So what can you do to help you lose this weight? Here you have some important tips:
* Only keep healthy food to hand. If you are doing it out of boredom or habit the type of food doesn’t matter, so try to keep fruit and salads to hand rather than chips and biscuits.
* Learn to relax. Often it is nervous energy from quitting that is causing you to want to do something, including eating. Practice some relaxation techniques.
* Keep a food diary. Right in it every time you eat and how hungry you were on a scale of 1 – 10, and why you ate. Once you start seeing it written out in black and white you may start to address your behaviour.
Obviously traditional weight loss strategies, such as exercising, creating balanced meals, etc., are important as well, but complemented with these 3 main points can be massively helpful to anyone who is looking to lose weight after they quit smoking.
